The Effective Education Practices Platform is an online toolkit that synthesizes global and Latin American high quality evidence and academic research on school-level education interventions. This platform is meant as a relevant support for policy-makers, teachers, head masters, NGOs, and the education community as a whole. Its main aim is to improve decision making in order to foster education quality and equality.
The platform contains 32 strategies. For each one of them a brief description of the intervention is provided, together with estimates of its costs, the robustness of the supporting evidence and its average level of impact in terms of learning outcomes.
The platform seeks to provide an accessible, user-friendly summary of educational research that is based on studies conducted by expert academics. The platform is a practice-focused resource, which allows comparison between approaches and includes considerations to be taken into account during the implementation process.
The platform tackles a series of barriers that prevent policy makers and key education stakeholders from making a proper and more intensive use of evidence. Inadequate access to high quality evidence, high costs of processing and synthesising the accumulated available knowledge, lack of trust in the type and robustness of information available, and difficulty with effectively putting evidence into action, are among some of the barriers encountered by those intending to base their decisions on evidence.
Why is it important? Promoting evidence-based decisions
The EEPP platform aims to promote evidence-based discussions and decision-making among policy-makers, headmasters, teachers and the education community as a whole, encouraging reflection and actions that improve and impact education quality and equity in effective ways. The platform does not provide ´recipes´ for success, but it provides a starting point, based on global accumulated knowledge, from which relevant stakeholders can begin asking relevant questions and design effective strategies taking into consideration their local needs, capacities and challenges. What type of practices should we change or foster? Which are the best ways to achieve the desired results in my specific context and school? What are the priorities for better learning? Where should we focus our efforts and resources? These are some of the key questions this platform will probably raise and also partly help to answer.
